At a time when clear, rational thinking may be non-existent and simply getting out of bed each morning seems almost impossible to accomplish, a divorcing couple is required to make the most critical financial decisions of their entire life.
A key advantage of working with a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) is the "reality testing" a CDFA® contributes to this very emotional process.
Using specialized computer software, a CDFA® can help create alternative scenarios for the divorcing couple reflecting all the assets and liabilities of the marriage. In this way, both partners can have a clearer understanding of where they are today, and visualize the long-term financial impact of the many settlement possibilities from which they must choose. The marriage may be over, but life itself does not stop. They need to anticipate their futures and plan accordingly. The goal is to restore hope, collectively and individually.
The CDFA® is part of the team. We work with the attorney and allied professionals to help the divorcing parties achieve the best possible outcome. Our work is often strategic to attorneys engaged in the Collaborative Divorce process or negotiation through settlement conferencing and/or mediation. Once agreement is reached, a CDFA® can also assist the attorney in preparing the necessary Qualified Domestic Relation Orders (QDROs).
