Ms. Fairley is the owner of Catharine Fairley CPA LLC, a tax firm in Frederick. She is a Certified Financial Planner® practitioner (licensed through the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards), a Personal Financial Specialist and a Certified Public Accountant (both licensed through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). She is also a Certified Financial Divorce Analyst® (licensed through the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts). She provides financial planning, tax and expat tax planning, tax preparation and divorce litigation support services. Ms. Fairley is trained in collaborative divorce as a financial neutral. She is also a registered investment advisor representative in the state of Maryland and provides investment advice on an hourly-fee basis only.



Ms. Fairley is a member of the national Financial Planning Association (FPA). She also holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Capital Area Chapter of the FPA, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and the Maryland Society of Accountants. Ms. Fairley also serves on the boards, investment and audit committees, of Frederick Mutual Insurance Company, a property and casualty insurance carrier, and the Community Foundation of Frederick County. Ms. Fairley is also a current member and past board member of the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek. She has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (now FPA-CAC), Heartly House, Mother Seton School and other non-profit organizations.



Ms. Fairley, born in Nova Scotia, earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Summa Cum Laude and the Governor General Medal, from Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada. She attended the University of Southampton, England for a year on a Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship. Ms. Fairley was formerly with Arthur Andersen in Toronto, Canada and Washington, D.C., and the National Association of Securities Dealers/the NASDAQ Stock Market. Since 1992, she has practiced tax, personal financial and divorce planning in Bethesda, and now primarily, Frederick, MD. Ms. Fairley brings over twenty seven years of experience in financial, tax, expat and divorce planning, public accounting and private industry to the firm.  Ms. Fairley has been featured in the New York Times Sunday money section, been quoted in national financial planning magazines was a regular tax and financial planning columnist for the Frederick News Post for several years. She was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2003 and a Rotary International Service award in 2005 for her service to Rotary.
